Church and State in Manila by PHILIP Bowring Published: 21 October 2010 HONG KONG - In principle, the predominantly Christian Philippines is a secular republic as its predominantly Muslim Malays and similar neighbor, Indonesia. In practice, however, the Roman Catholic Church has more power over lawmaking Manila than any Muslim organization in Jakarta.
